- Retained the former Gordon Bowling Club site for a public park (Pennant Park), with a community garden and an off-leash dog area if residents want them
- Retained the land around East Killara shops in community hands
- Established the Dumaresq Reserve in Gordon for public recreation
- Expanded measures to prevent illegal tree removal
- Established the Active Transport Reference Committee, for cycling and walking
- Committed funds from a possible asset sale in Lindfield for Marian Street Theatre
- Initiated a strategy for the provision of public restrooms in Ku-ring-gai
- Initiated a spectator shade and shelter study for all Ku-ring-gai sports grounds
Policies
We want Ku-ring-gai Council to:
- keep the land around East Killara shops free from development
- keep Gordon Golf Course in public use
- work with other parties to revive the Marian Street Theatre, Killara cultural centre
- maintain 4 public libraries, plus library home services
- continue expanding commercially sound recycling options in waste collection
Curbing Development
We want Ku-ring-gai Council to continue:
- its legal action against the state government’s Transport Oriented Development (TOD) State Environmental Planning Policy (SEPP)
- engaging with state and federal governments to minimise new housing demands
- working to minimise the impact of those demands on Ku-ring-gai’s character, especially the heritage conservation areas of Killara, Gordon, and elsewhere
- preserving fine old homes in sympathetic surroundings
- defending residents’ interests from developers
- minimising new building heights, letting us breathe
- considering measures for beauty and architectural style, such as brick or stone in place of glass, steel, or concrete façades
We oppose council:
- demolishing its bought homes on Dumaresq Street, Gordon except for a park
- rezoning public recreational land to residential or commercial use, because people need open space nearby and children need places to play
The Culture of Council
- We need conviction with compromise, not deals
- Councillors should engage with people whether they agree or disagree
- Mayors should be even handed with councillors, without fear or favour
- Policies, from whomever they come, matter (not personalities)
- Our vision remains a council of the ten, with Ku-ring-gai residents in control
